In this viewing area, the paintings of Hans Schiebold and Jeff White are displayed with a new sculpture by Robert Hess.  Hess’s sculpture  is composed of sheets of metal, hammered together to produce a uniquely tactile surface.  The shape initially recalls the letter “C” and then reveals itself as a fully three-dimensional object as the viewer approaches it.  The paintings of Schiebold and White, shown here, portray the Northwest landscape in a multihued palette.  Whereas White’s paintings use lyrical movement and subtle layers to create epic skies, Schiebold builds up thick layers of paint to evoke the rocky texture of his scenes.
