Ben Joyce paints map-based imagery on large, shaped canvases. The contours and negative space of each painting are derived from geographical information combined with Joyce’s unique vision. The forms that constitute each painting- rivers, lakes, highways, parks and state lines- are those natural and manmade features that delineate the features of our metropolitan landscapes. Petros Martin’s abstract paintings explore the workings of color, form and movement, with particular attention to the manipulation of the paint. Bold primary colors are set against nuanced hues through a combination of smears, scrapes and smudges.
